287/365 First Quarter Moon

This was one of my ideas for 1/2 way through the project, that never happened. :-) (Here you go Alison) I'm not even sure what the moon was like on that day. We have a full moon, but there is no 1/2 moon, instead it is called a First Quarter Moon.

A first quarter moon shows half of its lighted hemisphere – half of its day side – to Earth.
But we officially call this moon a quarter and not a half because it is one quarter of the way around in its orbit of Earth, as measured from one new moon to the next.

This moon appears half-lit to us, and half moon is a beloved name (although not an official one).

Lovely - and I had forgotten about this. Great shot though (and I saw your comment on my moon picture) and the info is very interesting, never knew that.
