Münnerstadt is a town in the district of Bad Kissingen in Bavaria, Germany.

Tilman Riemenschneider (c. 1460 ?? 7 July 1531) was a German sculptor and woodcarver active in Würzburg from 1483. He was one of the most prolific sculptors of the transition period between late Gothic and Renaissance, a master in stone and limewood.

The town council of Münnerstadt ordered in 1490 an altarpiece for the altar of St Maria Magdalena, the parish church, which included a carving of St Mary Magdalene with Six Angels.

I have to brush up on my saints, was it not St Agnes that was miraculously covered in long hair to hide her nakedness? This saint looks like she is more hirsute than is normal for a female... LOL, do not want to make light on religious sensitivities, though... it is a very nice carving, too, just think of all the effort it must have taken to get all those hairs in...
