I enjoy photographing waders, but oystercatchers can present a challenge because of their black-and-white plumage, making it easy to focus but challenging to obtain the right exposure. I watched this one about 4 years ago as it investigated a mollusc on a cold but sunny day in early spring. I've discovered you can best approach waders crawling or kneeling on the ground, as I suspect the body shape is not so human and represents less of a threat.
