Black-tailed Skimmer (f) (Orthetrum cancellatum), Lackford Lakes (Suffolk), June 2019

I happened to notice this dragonfly in the long grass next to the footpath by a bridge over a stream at Lackford Lakes. Bending down, and gently parting the grass to one side, I was able to obtain a series of images. The grassy environment to the photograph creates a slightly surreal colour effect. Although there is no obvious shimmering on the wings, I suspect this was freshly emerged ('teneral'). It's difficult to distinguish female dragonflies from the immature males, but I believe this is a female.

So glad I discovered your blog - I would not describe you as an "amateur" at all. Stunning photos, all.
