Blackcap (m) (Sylvia atricapilla), Fen Drayton Lakes (Cambridgeshire), April 2021

Since lockdown I’ve only visited our very close nature reserves. Earlier this week on a trip to RSPB Fen Drayton Lakes I was delighted to glimpse this male blackcap singing away at the top of his voice. I’ve only seen blackcaps on a handful of occasions, so was pleased to be able to capture this shot.

Although I usually like to fully isolate my subject, in this case the surroundings show the bird is his natural habitat.

As I’m dabbling in small-bird photography myself recently I can only say, what a wonderful capture!

Great photo - and taken on one of my old stomping grounds too (having lived at Swavesey). Beautiful song I'm sure but we need audio on Photoblog!

Great picture. It's a long while since I last saw or heard a blackcap.
