Armenia: Zvartnots

by Dzmitry Samakhvalau August. 08, 2007 2850 views

Zvartnots is unique not only for Armenia. It was built in 652 as a Christian Cathedral. But its style was original not only for medieval Christian churches, but also for earlier pagan temples. During the earthquake of 930, the Cathedral was ruined and only in Armenian chronicles it was possible to read about its beauty. Archaeologists excavated Zvartnots only in the 20th century and showed it to the world. Nowadays, Zvartnots is seen as the monumental symbol of Armenia.
