Sahara Crossing

by Buster Bruce October. 15, 2019 185 views

Continuing my abstract postings of Afrique. Maybe I should call it photo restoration. These images were taken in 1974 on my first Sahara crossing. The images were taken with a Pentax 35mm using Ektachrome transparency film. The film was carried across the Sahara in blistering heat (no air conditioning in those days) and then shipped back to the USA from Nairobi where they were developed months later. When I returned 2 years later I saw the images for the first time. Ive kept them safe all those years. For years I would conduct slide shows to shut in's at nursing homes using the classic slide projector- before video and DVDs. Last year I began the transfer to digital and tried to clear them up.

What a process! You’re lucky to have found photography at that early age, still have those memorable photos, and continue to enhance them.

Well, if you’re dating yourself you must be keeping good company...🙃  Late starter here, didn’t discover my passion for photography until I retired from teaching, opened up a whole new world.

Thanks Jay. Not sure who my audience is... I just wanted to have a place to post some of these relics so perhaps my kids will enjoy some day. So glad a guy like you appreciates those oldies!
