Dubare is known for its elephant camp, a forest camp on the banks of the river Kaveri in the district of Kodagu (Coorg), Karnataka. It is an important base for the Karnataka Forest Department's elephants. The elephants for the Mysore Dussehra were trained at Dubare elephant camp. There are opportunities for elephant rides, fishing, and river rafting.
The Dubare Elephant Camp is a chance to get to know about elephants better. Generally guests spend over three hours with the elephants – watching elephants being given a scrub-bath in the river, with rituals like oil being applied to their forehead, tusks and the other aspects of elephant grooming, learn how elephant food is prepared and how they’re fed.
Dubare is easily accessible from Bangalore & Mangalore. From Mangalore it is 173 km away. The route from Bangalore is via Mysore, Kushalanagara, Gudde Hosur (4 km from Kushalanagara on BM Road), then turn towards Siddapura. After about 8 km on Siddapura Road visitors would find a Dubare Camp board, and should take a left-turn to reach the destination.
