Spending a Penny

Today I thought I'd find out just how much magnification I could get with my macro lens on the Olympus E-330.

I selected a familiar object and proceeded to nudge the camera as close as I could - these two samples are 100% crops from the resulting image.

Here comes the geeky bit…

British penny has a radius of exactly 1 centimetre
Photoshop measured radius at 1860 pixels
Resolution just under 4800 pixels per inch
Image pixel size ~ 5.4 microns
