B&W day 14

by Berckmans Peter December. 09, 2017 331 views

Like promised an old photo, it dates from 1916 middle in the great war.The girl with the long hair is my grandmother. This is something we do no more, go to a studio and let make profesional pictures from the family. I have some more of them and they are taken almost certain on the same day. The softness from these pics I love and would like to recreate it.

I saw this earlier on my mobile and meant to come back to it because I couldn't see it.  This no pictures on mobile devices is cramping my style.  Anyway, I LOVE this photo.  There's something about old photos that I find terribly intriguing.  I wonder sometimes if someone will look at my photos when I'm long gone in the same way.  I have seen portraits that try to achieve this soft, old look and they are just stunning!  You must give it a go if you find the time.  I'd love to see it.

Very interesting to see how times changed. The clothes and the way, how the people presented themselves on photos, are completly different than in our days. It's cool to see such old photos.

Love it!!!!
What I see:
The three toys are belonging to the studio - I'm sure of it. Such items are given to children to make them more comfortable. I can't imagine your greatgrandmother carried them around back in these days. I wished, I would own the pug on the left side hold by your greatuncle. It's today an expensive collectible. By the way the daughter, your grandmother, was the spitting image of her mother.
And I like the chic outfit of all of them. The girl is wearing velvet and silk (maybe dark blue!) and the boys were stuffed into their best clothes too! My father hated his sailor suit - his was white but never for long. Actually I love the socks ... And your proud greatgrandmother has nice jewelery too: gold leaf (?) earings and a locket (photograph?). Would be nice, if the pieces are still in the family.
It was made in a studio ( maybe there is a name on the backside of the picture). The background is a painted decoration, which was exchangeable.
