Today I will post a few more pictures of this ruined abbey. It is just an impression of this place on a gray day, and I could not use the tripod there was fair going on and there were a lot of people, so it was a bit of a challenge to find photos with no people on.
But first a short history. It was founded in 1146 when a abbot and 12 monks together with 5 laymen were send out to start a monastry. It hightime was in the 13th century when there were about a 100 monks and 300 laymen. Than it went in decay and they had to leave it a few times for their own safety. The times were not that stabile. In the 18th centurey it was again booming until in 1796 under the French it was sold for buildingmaterials. But the ruins attrackted always the an audience because it was considered romantic and that is what saved it. Nowadays they are doing more conservation than restauration. what I like; so here is a small impression of this huge place.
