We revisited some places in Bangkok, there we had a young girl travelling with us ,who had not been in Thailand yet. No problem for me, I love the country and like to tell about it and the people.
One of the first places was the Jim Thompson House. Jim Thompson born on 21 march 1906 in Greenville USA, came to Thailand during WWII and fell in love with the country. After the war (1945) he came to live in Thailand and his lifestory is a bit like a book. The boss of the forerunner of the CIA, a parttime spy, former architect, art lover and collector.
That time the silk trade almost died out, his parents where in textile and he saw a change. In 1948 he started the Thai Silk Compagny and the story was a success. It is still running today. He disapeared in 1967 on his holiday in the Cameron Highlands in Malaysia and is still missing today. Many stories go around but the most common is , competition took him out.
Also he started collecting art and antiques of Thailand,in one way to save them and everybody who showed an intrest in the history and art of the country was welcome in his house. The house is a combination of about seven traditional houses and as an architect it was no problem to make them in something wonderfull. I find it one of the most beautifull houses in Bangkok. You can not take pictures inside, only the outside and the garden wich covers a lot of the house so you don't see it completly.
One of the main tourist attraction in Bangkok and nowadays much to busy. So I try to give an impression of the place in details that show his excellent taste in art and a bit of the silk.
