If the lion is the king of the animalkingdom, Than this majestic beast has to be a god. Kings bow in front of it and even the lion is scared to hunt it.
This holiday turned out to be a bit of an elephant special. I met more of them this year, than in my previous vists to this place. The village Ban Ta Klang in Buriram province is about 24 km from where we live, and try to visit it when there. Many elephants there still live together wit their mahout ( handler )next to the house. You don't have to go there for a tourist show, they have one but is very small, there is a study centre, a hospital. The show is just to get some money in, and the price is about a third of the popular big places. If you want you can stay in a homestay and be a volunteer, learn about the elephants, take care of them and many more. You live with the people and work with them.
In Thailand an elephant is very much respected and taken care for. They still work with them to get the wood out the forest where tractors not can come. also they play a big role in ceremonies and when they are old they get released or just pampered. I believe they work until 60y old.
The mahout and the elephant have a relation for a lifetime. Most of the time they grow up together.
Buying bananas for our big friends, they eat a lot
When they look at you, sometimes you can see them thinking.
Waiting to go to a ceremony
My litle girl also likes elephants.
