Fencing the sea

by Berckmans Peter July. 16, 2019 280 views

Sometimes I set myself a litle project. Trying to capture a small set of photos that go well together. Mostly 4 photos, that number hangs nice on a wall. Some of them are taken in one day, like this set and others can take weeks. They all have the same feeling about them, so subject must be connected to eachother and I use the same edit on all of them. Also they have to be in the same orientation, in this case landscape. What would work well is 1:1 size.

These wooden poles are trying to fence in the sea, so it seems. I liked their worn look, attacked by the water for many years. Being exposed to the elements gives them a great look.

The edit on this set is a bit highkey and I was looking for pale colors, find this works well for this subject.

Working like this gives me a challenge, have to look, create and try to capture. This is maybe something you can look into, it is fun and must say. When you get it right it feels good.

Fuel for thought.  I like what you have done here.  No.1 caught my attention....  But then No.2 is a stand out with great focus on the closest poles and nice DOF tapering off into the right hand.  All shots well thought out and interesting story smile

I like the feeling of lightness they convey. I could imagine them on the wall of a summer cottage. I also like the concept you explained, that you had the purpose to get a specific number for a specific purpose

Very nice exercise & explanation! Love the pale bokehs to match the subtle colors of the subjects. Would be a nice wall series for a beach house....

Maybe they go to a bar that is decorated with driftwood and has a maritime style to it

If you know such a place, it might be fun to make a nice print to give to the proprietor, as a gift!
Who knows, he may give you free drinks, as a thank you!!!!

Things like this is evolution in photography for me. I am not a technical photographer, I go a lot on feeling. I love your technical side with the camera, it is really good. I am proud to be an inspiration to you. PB has done a lot for me,when I started here I was not sure at all of my skills. Hope you take up the challenge,it is fun.

It can be a story. Or it can be parts of one car or something. Or like everything yellow. As long there is a connection between the photos.

Nice. I think a set like this might also work well as a black and white set, focusing on the textures rather than colour.

I have them in a litle highkey monochrome, and they look very good. The textures really come out.
