Stopover in Heidelberg

by Berckmans Peter August. 12, 2019 265 views

We started our small vacation to Salzburg with a stop in Heidelberg, Germany. To Salzburg from my door it is a 10 hour drive. And there I am not the youngest no more and the only driver, we decided to stop halfway.

Heidelberg is famous for its university, already for a few hunderd years and the old city is a joy to walk in. There it is summer now, it is full with tourists. The streets are full with shops restaurants and bars. The main attractionpoint is the old bridge and citygate. A relaxing place even when it is crowded. So here is a small impression of Heidelberg.

Heidelberg was so well preserved because it didn‘t get bombed in WWII, the US Army had their European headquarters there

great captures Peter. It‘s interesting to see a town I know so well (27 years, I sm there at least once a month, more in summer) from your perspective.
The Old Bridge is such an icon that I wouldn‘t think to post my photos of it in photoblog.
and you had great weather which makes all the difference
Next time we could meet up in HD if you‘re interested

We will be gone for Xmas from Dec22-30, so if you will be in the area before then we can take the detailled planning offline. Just send me a mail at [email protected]. The Christmas Market(s) in Heidelberg are quite nice and open everyday starting end of Nov.

I agree with Camellia- this makes me miss Europe. Tonight I will cast your images up on my flat screen to enjoy with friends. Excellent work Peter.

Welcome back! Beautiful shots made me miss being in Europe now. Really got the feel of the city in these series. Thanks for sharing. Btw what is that instruments in #11? I can tell it is some sort of a horn but is it a homemade variety or regional?

Thanks for taking us traveling with you! It's hard to decide whether I like the bridge better in black and white or color, and the dog in #8 was so unexpected! smile Great series!

#8 Made me chuckle . #9 is strange because those on cell phones are outnumbered by those that are not usually it is the other way around.
Is this normally a busy location or town? You have a great series of shots here I enjoyed them all. Looks like a great spot to people watch and do some street photography.

It still is a big student city and the old town is full with tourists.

hi Russell I live nearby Heidelberg. It‘s a university town do there‘s a big party nightlife scene as well as swarms of tourists in the summer. Due to its geographic situation in a narrow valley between two mid-sized mountains (550 meters) almost all of the Old Town is under historic preservation status.
