Another oldie

Tested another oldie from the late '70. This Fujica a ST801 in black had a hard life. I bought it for spare parts for my other ST801, almost for nothing. Coming home it seemed to work. So decided to change the lightseals on it, first time I did it. Also I changed the mirrordamper because when they get old, they can be cause of a lot of sticky stuff in your camera. Than it got a general clean. Loaded it with a new battery, and the lightmeter worked. So film in it and on the way we went.

The lens is a Fujinon 55mm 2.2, a very cheap kitlens in the time, made of plastic and a very simple glass layout. It has a bit of a following for its Bokeh. Now it is not a very sharp lens or maybe my copy is a bit of. So here are the results, some I turned to monochrome and most of them i made darker. When you have a correct exposure the results were a bit overexposed.

The film use is an Agfa Vista iso 200, a cheap film I use to try out cameras.

Here in the last picture is the famous bokeh. Not sure if i am a fan.

Lovely series & fascinating commentary....

ps....my participation, here on PB, will be very spotty, at best, from now through September, due to long a road trip, with little or no computer time.... I'll chime in, when I can....
Cheers!

I like the lens and the way it renders but I am on the fence about the final shots bokeh.

I tried it on my Fuji and the bubly bokeh comes very easy. On the Fuji it is prettty sharp.

The colors are very appealing. The bokeh is a bit too much for my taste, although I like bokeh, but maybe it does look better with an other motiv. I have seen bokeh-photos from the Meyer Görlitz trioplan 2.8 / 100mm lens, that totally blew me away, but this old lens is so popular, that the prices are quite high. Too high for my taste.

Some vintage lenses have a big following. I gonna try it on other subjects.

Very nice set of pictures :) And the bokeh is nice, but not for everyones taste, I agree. Reminds me a little of bokeh from Canon f0.95 Dream Lens ;)

A o.95 is very expensive now.

I know, probably well above 2000$ these days... I just remembered it when I saw bokeh in your photo. I guess this Fujinon can give a little tiny bit of style similar to that Canon ;)

I have some AGFA Vista but it expired like 10 years ago.  I'm afraid to venture with it.

You can give it a try. When it is stored dry and dark and not to hot.

The effort you went to for your images deserves a round of praise! I believe its not always the clarity or the exposure of an image but the mood, frame, and story behind it!

I agree, a photo is more than just the photo. Thanks

Interesting how you were able to revive it. Some rather nice looking photos.

With some TLC you come far. And they bring back that feeling of when we were young. First camera in hand and learning.

They are worth saving and some it is just a good clean and they work.
