We don’t have to wait. Every year on 4th of December (St. Barbara’s Day) fresh cut twigs from cherry or apple trees are put into vases to bloom around Christmas. It’s a mainly Catholic tradition in southern part of Germany (Bavaria) and Austria. This twigs are called Barbarazweige (twigs of St. Barbara).
