Cathedral Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul

Our city's Mayor and various cultural leaders and dignitaries visited the Vatican earlier this year to petition Pope Francis for the possible papal visit to Philadelphia (for the World Meeting of Families, a triennial event scheduled for Sept. 22 to 27, 2015)

I actually “bumped” into Pope Paul II during a papal visit in 1979 as he and his entourage used a side entrance of the zoo to escape the thousands of people that followed him around our city. We were probably about 20 feet away - he waved.

Whenever i'm in a tall building, first thing i do is run to the nearest window and look for photo ops. Here, I was at a meeting on the 24th floor.

Same vantage point as above.

The church in our village is also the church of St Peter and St Paul, but, beautiful as it is, it is not quite on this scale. I love all that verdigris!

I like your posts that include images and information about your area - this one is especially nice. My favorite is that gorgeous panoramic view in #4!

Beautiful that #2. I like that super wide angle perspective and the colors are fantastic and saturated.

How very exciting.
The pope also visited Slovenia when I lived there, but I didn't bump into him, unfortunately!

I also saw Pope John Paul II in '79 in Washington, and it's funny because also "bumped" into him as I had no idea he was even in the country! I was very close to him and felt a sense of awe.
Your photos are very clear and focused. I cannot stop going back and looking at that gorgeous vaulted ceiling! Thanks for posting this. I hope His Holiness accepts the invitation.
