Memorial

A large half circle of white roses spread on the ground in the old city harbour area of Rotterdam.

It turns out they're associated with a memorial to Loods 24, which was a dispatch point for Jewish people from Zuid Holland and Old Zealand who were being transported to the camps of Auschwitz, Sobibor, Bergen-Belsen, andTheresenstadt.

This sign is attached to small piece of the original wall of Loods 24, it explains something of the history and asks you to think for a moment of the innocents who disappeared.

There are plans to make an arc of reflective material with the names of all the children who passed through Loods 24 to die in the camps. (http://www.kindermonument.net/english). Treblinka Gas Chamber

fallingstars
'a field of
buttercups'

yellow stars
of David
falling

the prisoners
the children
falling

in heaps
on one another
they go down

Thanatos
showers
his dirty breath
they must breathe

him in

they see stars
behind their
eyes

David's
'a field of
buttercups'

a metaphor
where all that's
left lies down

That is so sad, but you know, in a way I think it's necessary to have such monuments so that people never forget.
