Spring Has Arrived

by Jennifer Raknerud April. 04, 2019 197 views

Although we have seemed to have crawled out of the arctic chill we the snow is in a slow retreat. The days are getting longer and it is no longer dark when I drive home from work.

Today, I spotted my first real sign of spring and that was waking up to several Robins in my backyard. They seemed quite cold and all puffed up. I don't know what they will find to eat as the ground is pretty frozen for a robust earth worm. I had some strawberries that were getting quite ripe so I threw them in the backyard. Hang on little birdies, I do see a forecast of 50 degrees coming soon!!

They are brave souls!
I often wonder how they survive until the real thaw!

It is strange for me to think of them being a sign of spring when here they are a sign of winter but then again that is the difference in the latitudes. I bet spring will be quite a welcome site there.

I am anxious to walk my 4 miles a day as winter eating has put me in chubby land.  By August I will be wishing for falling leaves!

Growing up in Chicago, we welcomed Spring exactly the same way - our first sighting of a robin.
