Every year on Memorial Weekend a town nearby my home hosts Blossom Time, a festival with rides and music and food. There is a parade and there are other events, including hot air balloon launches weather permitting. On the first night of the festival it is traditional for many of the balloons participating in the festival to have a "glow." The balloons gather on the launch field in roughly a semi-circle and fire up their heaters to fill the balloons. As dusk arrive, there is music and the balloon operators fire off their heaters to light up the balloons. This event is an annual Cleveland Photographic Society field trip and I have gone as frequently as I can and the weather permits. This year, the weather was so nice, that all but one of the nine gathered balloons was launched instead of merely filling up, then after landing in various places, brought back for the Balloon Glow. So instead of a static shooting opportunity for the light show that is the glow, we had launches to shoot as well. Here is some of what I got — the first features the new ultra wide zoom and was taken with me lying flat on my back on the ground. The second is going to be a strong contender for my favorite shot of 2018.
