The Kiss

Some memories are eched in our mind as if in bronze.
This sculpture is in Virgina Beach. I wrote the artist's name down to give credit, but in my usual state of oblivion I have somehow misplaced it. And can anyone please tell me why on earth our mothers bronzed our first baby shoes?

This is a similar shot of the sculpture. Gives you an idea of the beginning point of the above image. I added this shot after reading Moira's comment.

I like #1 alot! As for the shoes, definitely a way of preserving them, a keepsake...My Mom was born in 1939 and has hers on her mantel. I think they are cool esp. just because the design of the shoe is so old...funny thing though, my Mom never did ours! We were probably running barefoot too ;)

I really like the original composition with the line of trees in the background
I can see now the lady is leaning slightly forward so her legs look shorter than they are I suppose.
Thanks for posting the original.

Your edit looks like a sketch, nicely done... as for the shoes... MY mother didn't do it! :-)

Beautiful technique and composition of this photo. I love the glow of the bronze you created, very artistic work.
Bronze baby shoes are a way to put time in a bottle. It has been a popular way of preserving the memory of baby's first steps.

p.s. In Arkansas, we go barefooted, so I didn't have shoes to bronze!!

Ray, this is poignant and precious! I love your edit in the first one - and the setting in the second. (I'm going to post a similar statue on Valentine's Day!) Very nice!!

The bottom half of this sculpture looks out of proportion but maybe it's just the angle of the photo .
We don't here bronze baby shoes that is.

Do American mothers do that? Czech mothers don´t ...they just hide them in their closet, together with the first outfit the baby was brought home from the maternity hospital, together with the first scribble (with detailed description when and how this masterpiece originated) together with the first gift for Mother´s day, together...shall I continue? LOL
Why?!? I HAVE NO IDEA LOL I only know I could never give those things away:))
