The Moon - Total Eclipse 12/21/2010

by Ray King December. 21, 2010 4507 views

A total eclipse of the Moon places the Moon entirely in the shadow of the Earth. A full lunar eclipse hasn't coincided with the winter solstice in 456 years. During the eclipse, indirect sunlight lights the moon, and impurities from volcanic eruptions changed the normal yellow orange tinge to reddish brown. Sorry for the blur, but that thing is a long distance away. (And I have a cheap tripod!!!)

Not yet a full eclipse.

It was a total eclipse at this point.

Cheap tripod? That's what my husband claims, too, when I object to his buying yet another one...
nevertheless, it is a fascinating series, Ray!

Great capture, Ray. We had overcast skies, so I didn't try. Check out my son's post (jtnelso). He got a really cool series.

Very beautiful!! I could not see total eclipse, because of rain in Japan. But I am glad to see your photograph.
