Friday fun: the writing is on the wall

After doing it for three weeks, I feel confident about telling you the secret of successful parenting: consistency. Yup, this is what all we neurotics missed as children, a clip around the ear, but in a consistent manner.

As your loved ones learn to gurgle before graduating to swear words, Wittgenstein’s remark seems increasingly relevant: “the limit of my language is the limit of my world” and my sprog’s world is limited, so limited. I therefore instituted the “Fridge Door Dictionary”, something every parent, I am sure, has desperately tried. On the left are the banned words; on the right words to be learnt.

But, consistency being the order of the day, I must also abide by my own rules.

Most of the proscribed words are mine.

I had to teach them to my kid first so that I could ban them afterwards.

On second thoughts, successful parenting is really all about saying “no”. Maybe we neurotics were right after all.

I hope the social worker who comes to check out how we’re doing speaks English.

You lot get bonus points (presumably in heaven) for not using any of those naughty words this weekend, which I hope is enjoyable and relaxing, bordel de putain de merde

Well, on the fridge door to be exact, if my scrawl can be qualified as writing…

Maybe you should clean the fridge door before the social worker comes..... When younger I used to like to learn swear words in several languages- french, italian, german and swedish but the novelty's worn off now and I never used them just liked to know what they were!

Great! For a while in my life as a social worker I had to look how parents and their kids were doing...it was alwaysof interest if there was food lying around on the floor...or if there was enough food INSIDE the fridge for the kid...never my eyes went consciently to Fridge-DOORS...will advice my collegues look also after that :-)

But looking on the bright side, at least you have multi-lingual blasphemy... I think you need some Italian in there... having an Italian-ex I know lots of Italian that would be on the LHS of your fridge! Have a f****** good weekend! :-)

I'm not going to lie, but I only understand/can read about 5 of the words posted. Still though, this is very interesting and amusing too.

Looks like you erased one at the bottom of the banned list. Was it 'unbanned' :)

Merde alors, I can use this to brush up on some French swearing. Actually it reminded me of the fabulous part in the film Wish You Were Here where Linda is made to see the psychiatrist about here swearing. Well worth a look, if you haven't seen it (also if you have).
