What colour is your town?

by Stefan Fletcher October. 05, 2009 5311 views

I have been lucky enough to live in several cities and towns in various parts of the world.

Sometimes, places acquire a colour memory. London is brown; Geneva green and black; Chicago brick red; West Africa bright yellow; Paris pale grey, etc. The colour has little to do with the actual physical hue of the town. It relates to the emotion the memory of the said town evokes.

Athens, despite its grimy concrete and fumes, is blue.

So, what colour is your town?

Great question to go along with your fantastic shot! I'd never really thought of it before, but guess the town I live in how is probably dark green.

Very interesting concept. Yes I agree London is brown, I think it's due to the colour of the river. Although the Thames is quite a clean river now it always has a dirty look to it as a resultof all the clay that it winds through (a bit like the Colorado, but without any exciting canyons). As for the colour of my local town Southend, it is the colour of diced carrots, and if you go out at night you have to be very careful where you step.
Neat photo - that really is a beautiful colour.

The colour of Wittmund (you usually drive through and don't stop) is red.

You lived in Chicago?! That's my hometown! Well... I now sadly live in Miami, Florida; I think the color here is Fuchsia.

This makes me think of synesthesia, a penomenum where some people see numbers, letters or hear music as colours

Interesting concept you raise. I have visited but never lived in many cities. I was rathen taken with Vancouver (grey) and San Francisco (red)

London... you've already done; I suppose I'd better say brown. Not sure why though.
