MC1R - new model

by Stefan Fletcher September. 08, 2015 2896 views

Some of you know of my obsession with red hair and how to portray it in black and white. This charming young lady was kind enough to indulge me today.

Outdoor shoot in PLT, September 2015. Model: Diane.

I added a second, softer image after the first four comments. I added an unedited colour one after Mark's comment.

More redheads here [stefanfletcher.com].

Techie bit: I used a full-frame camera and fast lenses (f/2) wide open. I screwed up on the depth of field - most of the shoots had the eyes in focus and the nose OOF.

The contrast is too stark for me in the first one - I like the second and love the richness of her coloring in the last one.

I always want to see red heads in colour. It is after all, red hair, the most unique, gorgeous hair of all.

Oh yes knew my sis would mention me, I hated my hair and freckles as a child, so many nick names at school,,and problems with the effects of sun and fair skin......but you have captured her well but prefer colour definitely here.........
Freckles thankfully fade in old age............but one asset red heads rarely go grey.........!!!!!!!

That is an absolutely stunning model.
I have no problem with the neck being out of focus. Puts more focus on her face.
But I do get the feeling the shoot could have captured her better.
The colour one: perhaps a background that sets off her fiery hair? Blue sky, green grass?... just thinking aloud...
And I bet there is a fire inside her somewhere that doesn't hit the outer world now as it could.
Do something with her eyes. Make them sparkle...
Better yet... take her here... two photographers ... two minds... yesss...

Yes, I would never have guessed red either. But it is so penetratingly real and full of energy.

I prefer color especially with a redheaded girl .
Strange she has so many freckles on her face but none on her neck , I agree with DD

She's simply gorgeous! You caught her face perfectly but agree with Jacki, neck should be more "real"

Im envy...

Stunning freckled face. I can see why you could be obsessed.

There is something odd happening in this shot for me... her face seems detached from her body due to the fact that her neck is completely out of focus and lacking any of her wonderful skin details. This looks like something you may have done in post... I think it would be a stronger image if you backed off the blur. Nice face though!

What a lovely young woman - I hope she is pleased with the portrait too.
I love her freckles ... reminds me of my sister as a young girl.
