I was driving through Colt State Park this morning after getting my dunkin donuts coffee. I came across this guy assembling his kite in the park as he was waiting for other kiters to show up.
I struck up a conversation with him and found out that he had handmade sewn his own kite.
I ended up spending about 1 1/2-2 hours with him hearing about kites and as to why he had such a passion for kite flying. 4 and a half years ago he was diagnosed with a terminal illness and they gave him 1 year to live, so flying kites was his "high". As you can see he's beat the terrible disease.
He drove from Wisconsin and ended up in Rhode Island on his kite flying quest. I'm so happy I got the chance to meet him today. He let me fly a double string kite, which wasn't easy as I crashed it twice and nearly ripped my arms out of their sockets. Lol.
and on that note, as your parents always told you " go fly a kite" this man took it to heart...Kite on my friend, it was a pleasure today!
