Shopping and Eating!

Saturday dawned bright and clear, but instead of going to the market I decided to accompany my house-mate on a shopping expedition ?? especially as I was promised lunch if I did so.

So it was off into Central London and first to a branch of Le Pain Quotidien ?? they even have these originally Belgian bakery and communal table eateries in New York so I wont bang on about, it except to say that I am extremely fond of eating there and the soup was excellent and so was my prawn and avocado tartine. I do think it should be called the daily bread rather than the original bread though!

Then it was off for serious business ?? shop after shop after shop ?? not a break for refreshment just continuous shopping ?? well continuous watching other people shop actually. Shops with nice assistants, shops with pretty customers, shops which just for some reason do not seem to gel and the opposite ?? a couple which were so very right that even my house-mate (who is not in anyway a shopaholic and normally makes her own clothes) was tempted to buy.

Interestingly too in this time of the ??credit crunch??, everywhere we went was packed and the tills were ringing continuously.

Eventually time defeated even Claude ?? it was after 7pm and the shops were closing!! A quick stop for some water and it seemed like a good idea to find somewhere to eat.

A stroll across Leicester Square (jammed solid with people) and then up into Soho and after failure to get into a favourite veggie eaterie it seemed like to good idea to try Busaba Eathai further up the road. Busaba Eathai is another brainchild of restaurateur Alan Yau who launched the fantastically popular Wagamama food chain (and who??s Hakkasan and Yauatcha both have Michelin star??s).

Busaba Eathai is sooo popular that there is always an enormous queue and last night I was told 20 minutes to half an hour for a table ?? but the time passed quickly ?? especially as Claude had got a menu and was by now so excited at all the dishes that she was reading them all out and it was great fun. The queue seemed full of French people too.

We got in at last ?? you sit at shared tables (like Wagamama) and the atmosphere is terrific! Great food ?? my battered prawns were amazing, Claude loved her oriental fruit salad and then??.! My Jungle curry was soo spicy ?? (and I like spicy!) great and Claude had a delicious lamb shank curry ?? softer and with coconut. And lots of delicious vegetables too.

All in all a great experience and I simply must go back there soon. And then it was out into bustling Soho and people doing carnival stuff and eventually home - a simply lovely day!

And what did I buy during 5 hours shopping? ?? nothing!!!

Here we go! Waiting for the bus

I like this.

Shop 1 - trendy - good music - nice vibe but not quite right

Zara didnt feel right - though it was packed solid!

Really good staff - dressed in the shops current best lines - smart and helpful - but not Claude's size in what she liked

Maybe this?

Mango - sooo many people ! but not right

Not a good shop - but cute people outside!

OMG another French Connection!

I wonder if the lovely black dress you did not buy is still there?

Nice stuff for evening wear

But mumsy this one

Pretty security guard! But clothes not right

jam packed with customers! Just tooo many.

Classic - but the cut wasn't right.

Fun!!! nice shop

Looked like the end of a long day! terrible music!

Gap was Gap like

OMG - bought something - hooray!!

Moi looking serious in Busaba Eathai - makes a change from the happy smiley pictures lately!

Claude happy with lots of vegetables and other culinary delights!

the lobby of Busaba Eathai sets the atmosphere nicely.

And to end a great day out - cabaret in Old Compton Street Soho.

Hey Bob, fun post! I wish we had shopping like that in my town--lord! We don't even have a Gap!
I have a terrible time shopping--I always think, "Mmmmhh if I buy this and there was something better..."--that is why I always come away empty handed but richer!

Thanks for sharing!

5 hours of shopping would NOT be a good time for me, so I'm glad this was YOUR day! #7 is a particularly good shot, Bob... nice lighting, good display choice, good perspective! Fun post!
