In England's green and pleasant land

A little break from Symi - which was a couple of weeks ago now - to catch up with a day out at home.

One of my colleagues at work has bought some woodland and is engaged on the path towards making it function as sustainable forest - managing it to promote biodiversity while producing timber and fuel.

It was a long journey there on the train but well worth it when we did get there. Especially as the weather in London was dull and wet and when we got to Sussex it was warm and sunny.

We all had lunch round a camp fire and then went for a long walk through the woods stopping to look at beetles and animal tracks - and the trees of course! And then pudding before we caught the train home.

A simply lovely day.

Very English! lovely sky and not Photoshopped!

Into the woods!

Lunch looks to be cooking well

Time for a natter

Then off on our walk

I just love the way the light works with the trees

the path ahead

Oh - where has my hair gone?

this is what I was taking - a lovely little beetle

obstacle course next!

Q What's got a hazelnut in every bite?
A Squirrel droppings!

I like the way the light falls on these logs

the blackberries where a little sharp to taste

love this shape

here is Mike who's wood this is and his amazing kettle type thing that you put sticks in the top an water in the side and it seems to boil in no time - great - and a lovely cup of tea too!
