Now that everyone is shooting digital (well, at least most everyone), what was the best 35mm camera ever made? My vote goes to the Leica M3. I owned most of the better pro cameras (Contax RTS, Canon EOS 1V, Minolta, Pentax PZ-1P, etc.), but my favorite has always been the Leica M3. My Leica M3 dated back to the late 1950's and did not have too many modern conveniences (like a meter), but I never used a camera that "felt" so good to use and produced such great images. The M3 was built like a tank, with the best viewfinder ever designed. Sometimes, when using the latest digital camera, I miss the old days of just using one great camera and a couple of lenses.
