Old Point Loma Lighthouse | San Diego
Point Loma holds some of the greatest treasures the San Diego area. The majority of the point is protected in Cabrillo National Monument so it isn’t covered in houses and gated to keep the public out. If it wasn’t a national park, this prime real estate would be coveted by developers for the magnificent views that look out over the ocean and down upon Coronado Island and the skyline of downtown San Diego. In addition to the views, this park has an excellent visitor center, trails to explore, two lighthouses to photograph, and yes it has tide pools.
The tide pools of Point Loma rival any others in the state. At low tide this place is no secret. Locals and tourists alike have heard about this place and will take their kids out to learn about the delicate and beautiful marine life exposed when the ocean recedes. Consult tide charts and then head out to Cabrillo National Monument. The park hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day but Christmas and Thanks Giving.
