I love black and white. It was my favorite film format when I first started shooting as a younger child. Black and white strips the photo down to its soul leaving beautiful tones of grey .
1 of my other goals for the year is I am trying to learn more about off camera lighting and how to use it successfully and not take 100 shots to get one good one. Well I was the only subject available so let me take a selfie.
Using a SL1 with no flip screen it was a guessing game I knew where I focused the lens and I knew I wanted to use a smaller aperture to give me a margin of error . Then I had to make an educated guess of where I needed to be when I pushed the 10 second self timer.
I did suspend my 12 shot limit for 2 reasons. 1 I am learning OFC (off camera flash) and it is not TTL (through the lens) so I know there is a few wasted shots getting exposure correct. I also knew I would bork the framing up . Things to think about next time is using either a reflector or a 2nd flash to fill in a bit of the shadow under my chin. The other thing is have a subject that is not myself so I can frame the shot easier. If you have any other suggestions while you look at the picture feel free to let me know. As always thank you for taking a moment to spend with me on my journey.
