Sketchy Neighbors Hanging Around

by Russell Smith January. 07, 2018 826 views

I went to take a look outside to see what the temperature felt like I looked to my right and I saw a Black Vulture hanging out on the power poll. Then I grabbed the camera and went outside as I went to go around the house on the opposite side (so I would have the sun help me ). I noticed one ontop of the roof . A bonus 2 for .

This for me was quite serendipitous. While they are one of the ugly family of birds they hold a unique spot in the eco system . Without them and others like them there would be hmmm how to put it politely a lot of dead decomposing animals laying around as a breeding ground for disease .

I did both of the images in black and white to hide the chromatic apparition in the high contrast areas . I know I could take it out using lightroom but there was enough that it gave an odd halo and I do not have dxo installed on my desktop . I also could have used a lower iso but I wanted a higher shutter speed incase it took off .

Black and White give it a monster bird feel, very cool.

Love #1, its composition and editing. I do not see that kind of creatures near my home smile

In some parts of the world they are endangered . The Black Vulture had a low population 2 or 3 decades ago but they have come back nicely . We also have the Turkey Vulture which is similar but they are a bit bigger and have a red head (like a turkey)

Usually I see them floating around in the sky. I think they were taking advantage of the warm roof .

Thank you. It honestly is my least favorite lens outside of the focal length.

#1 - perfect shot and I like the post processing too, because it gains some graphic qualities.
I actually like vultures and this one isn't ugly at all.
