Day 95/365 Cannot Live Without....

by Russell Smith April. 04, 2019 310 views

Oxygen, Water, Food these were the first things that I thought of when I saw this for today. Then I thought about family, friends, and other things that are quite important to me. Then I thought some more. Coffee because there is no life prior to the first cup of it in the morning. Then I thought about creativity or creating . Outside of the basics of life for me it is important to have a creative outlet. It is a must because that will allow me to focus my mind and as a result of that it has a quieting effect on it.

This is my current finishing point or image but this is not quite where I started. Overall I took 30 images including oops and misfires.

This was the first image but the starting point was coffee beans from there I found the cup I wanted to use then the surface/background. After that it was a matter of finding the dof I wanted then tweaking the lighting the way I wanted. I scrim here a ipad box there (its white and reflective) a white card there. Then it was turn speed light up . Ok too bright so turn it down until I got it the way I wanted. When I am concentrating on the smaller details the noise of the world and my mind disappears and I find myself enjoying the process of creating.

It's funny how a slight different in perspective improves so much the final result. Love #1

That is very true. A slight change in light or position even angle can make a very different photo.

Love #1 and can definitely relate to having to go through 30 images to get to the one I really wanted. Speaking of which, probably time to clean out my Lightroom again...

Outside of way underexposed way over exposed or way out of focus I have started moving the less than images or learning images to a spefic folder on an external drive . That way I can go back and see and try and figure out some things later.

That is a really good system! I hate to delete everything because I do go back to compare things and second-guess a lot, but it makes a lot more sense to organize that way. Thanks for the tip!

LOL-
Coffee was the first thing I thought of!
I imagined you doing it, so glad I didn't (again)!
You did a way better image than I would have!
I absolutely LOVE IT!smile
PS: If I had coffee beans and no water, I would chew on them just to get the flavor/caffeine!
I agree with you about the creative process too!

Your photos turned out really well. I can relate to loosing yourself in the process and I csn esp relate to dozens of attempts that just all can be deleted.. Some blogs like money I spent weeks on. Working one day an hour on it then again a few days later and then again, I must have spent 4-5 hours on money.

I used to think I couldn’t live without coffee, then I had to give it up when I developed my stomach issues, so I proved I indeed could live with out it, but it’s not much fun. It’s been 1.5 years now. I miss it and some mornings are really hard.

:) It is fun sometime I see the word/prompt and have an instant idea other times I will have to ponder it for a while then there are the times like this one where I had to think for a while then it took me a while to dial it in. I do find it fun and satisfying to get the image the way I have it pictured.

My days don't start without a coffee either. However, I'm surprised that one cup can be enough on some days. When I'm working I'm drinking coffee all day long, when I'm on a holiday and visiting places (like this week) apparently I can go on all day on just one cup of coffee in the morning.

I generally have multiple cups but the world does not exist until that first cup has been drunk :)

It is rare that I take a food shot and do not take 10-30 shots before I am happy or have answered any what if quesitons that I might have.

Having the questions to find answers to is where the best photos are developed!
