20 April Red-Bellied Woodpecker...

by Russell Smith April. 22, 2021 142 views

I added the color version of this bird for those that might not be use to seeing it. There is a bit of red on the belly but honestly this is a name that confused me for ages now I just accept it as it is what it is. This guy was feeding at the neighbors feeder.

Sometimes I see them here. I prefer the B&W, good you put the color version in as a refference

This is one of the birds you would need the color to ID until you get use to seeing it .

Like flowers and food, the colors are the most attractive elements! Love the dark background to accentuate the subject's details, without distractions...Nice work!
+1

Thank you. One of my favorite things about this species it the shape and form of it with the tones that is why I lean towards the black and white but it is subjective and I do love the color too. The background is a plesant bonus :)

I see merit in both!
The dark, featureless background certainly makes the subject's details really "pop", in both treatments...
Thanks for the contrasting treatments....
Cheers!

Haven't seen woodpeckers here yet, but looking for them. Very nice capture and of course I like the color because, well just because smile

Glad you added the colour version. I like it much more than the monochrome one.

I am the other way around I prefer the monochrome version better but the color version does have its merits.

Great lens my friend. Are you happy with your Olympus? Did you already use a 12-200 mm lens?

I am happy with it I have the EM5 Mark 2 one thing I hate with it is the tracking constant AF. It is not that great but I think that is a flaw with that body as the Mark 3 and other higher end bodies are better. I have the 14-150 weather sealed lens and the 75-300 v2 lens for Olympus. I want the 12-100 lens but it is a ways down the road.
