Slovak Roma

by Sandra Vermeulen May. 20, 2010 7272 views

We visited (with guidance from some Slovak locals) a gypsy camp.
The first moment we arrived they where not happy to see us and kept their distant .
But, when we began to give out the candy to the kids the hostility disappeared immediately.
Next thing, we even had to ceep them at a distance, they all wanted to be photographed, they pulled our clothes and begged to be allowed to stand in the picture.

Prachtig!

Neat work - so sweets are an essential piece of photographers kit :-) 1 5 & 9 are my favourites - I prefer the close up look.

Larry had told me what an amazing post this was, Sandra. I must agree - these are remarkable portraits of a people we know so little about. Thank you for the effort you put forth to open our eyes to their culture. Excellent!

So impressive... Looks like their government forgot about them... I believe it is a little better in my country, but I am not quite sure.
