Dead Moles
This is how a local farmer advertises his brand of animal husbandry. He kills moles, and hangs them on a fence.
Do you find this offensive? I do. And I have to walk past this sight most days.

It is disgusting, isn't it? There's an older gentleman nearby, who runs sheep on his place. When he kills a coyote that's been skulking around, he hangs it up on the fence along the highway and leaves it there. Someone told me that it's a natural deterrent to other coyotes, but I'm not sure if that's true. He's also got a bunch of peacocks that I'm planning on stopping to see and photograph this summer.

in times gone by.. the mole catcher would hang his days work out like this for the lord of the manor to see how much he owed him. crows, jackdaws and magpies too. rabbits and pidgeons were food. ive not seen this for years...

Keep sticking copies of Wind in the Willows in his letterbox - but chances are someone like this hasn't sufficient brain cells to enable them to read - contact PETA see if they can sort him out - or you could try the Seals - now they got their #1 bad guy they might like an incursion into Wales to keep their hand in……...

this is grim and to no purpose; I think the old "reason" for hanging crows was to deter others but the poor moles are blind and underground and not nearly so destructive as they're supposed to be

I agree, that's unpleasant. I don't really understand the point of it. Unless the farmer is a contract mole killer. I remember seeing a similar thing with a lot of dead rats on a farmers fence in Scotland when I was a boy. I asked my dad and he said it was a warning to other rats not to come near - I still think he was having me on.

This is horrible! I understand wanting to get rid of the moles, it just the hanging of them on the fence and showing it for all to see. Does not seem like a very nice person at all!

This is a bit weird. I've heard of farmers hanging out dead crows, but not moles. I wouldn't want to advertise that I had killed this many moles!
