Schoolboy error

So, this new camera.

I was out with the dog a day or two ago and tried to grab a quick shot and, in trying to set the camera up quickly, I obviously changed something which, I couldn't locate so ..... I reset the camera.

Skip forward to yesterday, 14th, of for a good walk through Forest Fawr and Forest Ganol, with said camera.

A beautiful day, with lots of dappled light and shade in the forest and many, many shots taken ...... in JPEG!

I love this plant, there's a huge range of colours in the berries.

Three bears caves.

These old iron mines provide the backdrop to many a movie and Doctor Who, for those fans out there.

I LOVE these mines / caves but, I'm not a fan of going in too far.

Further along, there's another iron mine but not as glamorous, more, dangerous so it's not advertised as a kids visit.

Looking down on the second mine entrance, from the main trail above.

Walking into the second mine.

The actual entrance to the mine has a very large pool of water blocking it, sadly full of rubbish.

The mine entrance, showing the trees above. I guess one day, after horrendous rains, this will collapse.

How I wish the captions worked :(

A little further down this side trail, lies a sealed up mine entrance, I don't know if it was originally to the mine above or a completely different one.

The iron mines of Forest Fawr

So, aside from getting some nice shots, when I went to edit them ..... I prefer to shoot RAW, so to speak.

Check and check again.

Still, a lovely walk, with the Forest cafe mid point.

The second half of the walk was up through Forest Ganol on the opposite side off the valley.

I love the graffiti on the old woodman hut.

Great shots - I have done the same with my DMC-ZS50. Maybe it was the Guns 'N Roses?

Quite a tour! I'd very hesitant about venturing too far into those tunnels!

I had to smile when I saw these mines are in Wales, I was looking at them thinking they were just like the gold mines I explored once in South Dakota.

There's so much to discover all around us, Wales has some wonderful ancient and modern sites. The industry here was terrible and so many remains are still around.

Are there any areas particularly good for the remnants of the regions heavy industry. I would love to capture this.

There's remains and ruins all over Paul, around Merthyr there's quite a lot, depends what you're looking for

Thanks Brian. I guess the ideal would be old/derelict ironworks, mills etc. if there's much left. Also an excuse to visit where My Mum grew up in Trefforest...

Well, there's an old tin works just along the river from there with an open rail tunnel behind it. Near Merthyr there are abandoned iron works on the hillside. Penallta colliery tower is still standing, all within about a 15 mile radius.

Thanks Adrian, I am, it's what I've needed for some time. Pocket sized and flexible, much better than relying on my phone

Looks like a great place to explore, but I’m like you, I wouldn’t go inside the caves or the mines.  Safety first! Great photos!
