Lesson #4 - Raw Files

by Liz July. 30, 2008 4131 views

The last lesson in my exposure class was on, among other things, taking and editing raw files. Here's one of the photo sets I submitted for this assignment. The first photo is the edited version, the second is the original shot. I have to say, I was a bit surprised at home much adjustment a raw file can undergo and come out looking good! Guess I'll have to reconsider my aversion to large files and photo editing….. ;) Although I still hate Photoshop - and I only have Elements!

BTW - This photo was taken at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton, NJ. The place is full of all sorts of amazing sculptures. I'll try to post some more photos from there in a day or two.

The edited result…

And the original image.

Very nice! I've only worked with raw a couple of times, but just yesterday I was thinking I want to start again.

Do you hate Photoshop because you don't like to edit, or is it just the program itself? I've been working with Paintshop Pro Photo X2, and just love it.

You may make me reconsider working with raw. I love the sculpture.

Nice lighting change, it pops quite nicely!

You shouldn't feel bad about using Elements. I took a class and still don't know 10% of PhotoShop... and never will according to the instructor! But then, I also don't use RAW files! "Good enough" is good enough for me. :-)

I work with Elements as well.
I love it and don't feel I'm lacking for something bigger just yet.
I started shooting RAW this spring and I could never go back to jpg. Just love it!
This is a great shot!
