Angel in stone

There are many very old cemeteries around the city of Bath.

These are fascinating places, full of extraordinary sculpture, tombstones, epitaphs, plants, and unusual old trees. They usually have an abandoned air with rudimentary maintenance. They are rarely visited by descendents. This contrasts greatly with the cemeteries of Czechia and Slovakia, which are more organic, regularly visited, and very well maintained. Strange how differently two cutlures treat death and the dead. Since visiting family graves in Czechia I have become interested in cemeteries as sociological phenomena, and of course their terrific photographic opportunities. All photos in a cemetery have a story to tell.
