Castell Coch - a Cardiff Folly

Romantic 1870'a castle folly built for the 3rd Marquess of Bute

This romantic folly was built in the 1870s by the 3rd Marquess of Bute to a design by William Burgess. It gets its name from the colour of the sandstone used to build the walls. It is built on the foundations of a real 13th century castle. The interiors are incredibly ornate and I have included a few of the rooms and some details as well as a bit of the surrounds. The views from the Castle are commanding.

Beautiful set! I can't get over the contrast between the starkness of the outside and the very very ornate inside..... I like 1, 3 and 4 the best....
