Experiments with a crystal ball in a dark forest

Experiments with a crystal ball in a dark wood at the Matara Spiritual Garden, Gloucestershire, England.

Yesterday I went for a walk in the Matara Garden during the early evening. The light was just beginning to turn. I noticed a crystal Christmas decoration which someone had hung beneath a very large Beech tree. It seemed to offer endless opporutinites for some natural experimentation. Here are a few examples of raw images trying different camera settings.

I was trying to capture the spirit of the place.

Thanks Cherax. I think your feedback and ideas are great. When I master digital software I will have a try. At present I am trying to just push the envelope on raw images. At present I have no digitally enhanced pictures on my photoblog.

See what a bit of fruitcake can do for you?
Photography favours the prepared mind.
I reckon 6 works best - love the refracted light - great shot.

For the others I'd consider digitally erasing the string. Maybe.
And in 1, if you're lucky enough to have a remote flash with you (on my shopping list), you could position it to avoid the bounce-back. (Hope you're happy to get this sort of suggestion.)

Cool how it changes with the background. #5 gives me the most sense of the place.
