Giving a sense of the collective spirit of a place and person by focusing on individual items of one person's home and gathered items. Part 1. Still life portraits of everyday items. Posting 1. My Friend Sandi's House and Garden.

Sandi's Garden

Today I felt the need to reflect on the everyday items that clutter our lives. I have chosen objects form my friend Sandi's house and garden.

It strikes me that if one just focuses on individual items they may seem quite ordinary. But somehow, almost miraculously, these same items owned by a particular person, when gathered collectively give a deep sense of the place and person.

My friend has a beautiful sense of design and her ‘natural clutter’ seems so artistic and inspiring to me.

What do you think of this idea?

Do these pictures give you a sense of the spirit of my friend?

It was the bed that told me about her too. That looks like a glorious place for a nap or summer night. Makes me wish I had a greenhouse. I also like the whimsy of her gaurdian.

Oh yes, I do agree with you all. Its the bed - the colours, arrangement, and sheer magic of it.

Thanks for all the interesting comments and suggestions. Collectively you are quite near the mark in your assessments: Sandi is green, vegetarian, loves nature, environment, and animals, is generous, big-hearted, caring, artistic, free-spirited, and bohemian, and a great friend.

yep, they convey an identity, not only hers, but yours too cos you're choosing what to photograph - there's lots of natural beauty there. I love the bed in the greenhouse, sleeping in natural places is great.
