In searching for the truth be ready for the unexpected.

Lost in a sea of infinite possibilities

I chose one of my favourite flowers as an object to experiment on using GIMP 2 photo manipulation software. This is unchartered skies for me and my little plane is sturdy and ready for flight.

Change is strange but also exciting. It takes us out of our comfort zone. It is like looking at the earth from outer space for the first time [video.google.co.uk] and feeling vulnerable at how small our planet is in the billions of galaxies each with billions of stars. From the comfort of the known world we enter into the limitless unknown. Moving to photo manipulation is like this as even if we counted every RAW photo taken on earth there is still an infinite possibilities of their manipulation [video.google.co.uk]. This wonderful short cartoon hints at the creativity possible.

Manipulate
• verb 1. handle or control with dexterity; 2. examine or treat (a part of the body) by feeling or moving it with the hand; 3. control or influence cleverly or unscrupulously; 4. alter or present (data) so as to mislead. From Latin manipulus ‘handful’.

Here's a piece of music called Winds of Change [video.google.com] by the Scorpions.

Heraklietos of Ephesos:
Whosoever wishes to know about the world must learn about it in its particular details.
Knowledge is not intelligence.
In searching for the truth be ready for the unexpected.
Change alone is unchanging.
The same road goes both up and down.
The beginning of a circle is also its end.
Not I, but the world says it: all is one.
And yet everything comes in season.

GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program [gimp.org]. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring. It works on many operating systems, in many languages.

I used to use GIMP but by some mishap last time I downloaded it I couldn't install it propperly, so it doesn't work. Nonetheless, The GIMP is a very good tool, indeed. And you handful of handfuls are beautiful!

These are very cool effects. The cartoon version of is my favorite as well. The last one with the fish eye is great fun. Congrats for stepping out of your comfort zone! I know how scary that can be.
