In loving memory of my sweetheart Adele.

A forgotten memorial statue in an out of the way place

Situated in a valley beyond Worcester and towards the Villiersdorp area there is group of farms all called Lemoenpoort (Orange Valley). On one of the farms there is a small private cemetery. While looking for rare plants with a Conservation organisation I wandered off the veld trail and came across this small sculptural tribute from Barry to his dearest Adele. Such a sight in this strark landscape, it seemed very touching and poignant.

I love thee, I love but thee
With a love that shall not die
Till the sun grows cold
And the stars grow old.

Willam Shakespeare

To be in love is merely to be
In a state of perpetual anesthesia:
To mistake an ordinary young man for a Greek god
Or an ordinary young woman for a goddess.

H.L. Mencken

The only things in life you regret,
Are the risks that you didn't take.

When I first met you I was afraid to like you, now that I like you I'm afraid to love you, now that I love you I'm afraid to lose you.

Between the wish and the thing life lies waiting.
