The wonder of vernal pools

by Charles Stirton December. 22, 2011 8592 views

Vernal pools, also called vernal ponds or ephemeral pools, are temporary pools of water. In a recent trip to the Cedarberg Mountains in South Africa I chances upon some vernal pools (Wikipedia) [en.wikipedia.org] which had an abundance of temporary plant life which had very short and specialised life cycles. Enjoy these pictures of what I saw.
