About 40 minutes North of Baltimore is Prettyboy Reservoir . The19 billion gallon, man made reservoir, is one of Baltimore Cities main sources of drinking water. The setup is a little strange though. The water isn't directly sent to Baltimore but rather it uses the Gunpowder river as a natural transporter. The water from the river is again put in another reservoir called the Loch Raven Reservoir. From here the water is processed and pumped to the rest of Baltimore.
I took these photos about a month or so ago and have just recently gotten around to posting them. It was a good hike but significantly longer then expected. The DNR website claimed it was only 1 1/2 miles to the dam. After hiking for 3 hours, I decided to use Google earth to figure out how far it really was. Turns out the 1 1/2 miles was closer to 3 miles (straight, factor in the hills and such and it was probably closer to 3 1/2 - 4).
