Really enjoyed looking at these. #1 and #3 especially. Please could you share some
example settings for other users who want to give star trail photos a go?

These photos are a composite of 150 to 200 photos combined in a free software named StarTrails (http://www.startrails.de/html/software.html). Each photo is taken with your wide angle lens (18mm or wider) with an aperture wide open (F2,8 is available or in my case F3.5 with kit lens). I have set the ISO to 6400 or 3600 depending on the light available (large ISO can washout the image in cityscapes due to light pollution) and exposure to 30sec or 20sec. I mounted the camera on sturdy tripod and switched it to interval shooting continually to shoot 30 sec exposures or 1 hour to 2 hours depending upon the memory card capacity and battery life of camera. Post process the full images according to your choice in lightroom or any other software ( I used Nikon ViewNX2 ) and stack all the photos in Startrails software. Give it a try. I reccommend places far from the city for minimal light pollution . Also look for the North star as a reference point as the earth is rotating on its axis to create shots like #5 . Don't forget to take coffee or tea and snacks along with as you may get hungry waiting for your camera to finish the shots.
