Peru Day 4 Part 1: Quiocta Cave

Days prior to this trip, I had a dream that I was walking in to a cave from a limestone pathway. Once I entered the cave, the limestone path continued until I saw a cove to my right (rather big). Suddenly, everything went dark. After taking the tour, I literally dreamt of the entrance to the cave, the lack of light and us standing in the dark in the belly of the cave at the end of the tour - witnessing the silence of its' energy. Again, I don't know why I was here and don't care. It was fun and a way to really connect with the womb of the earth. It was a beautiful experience.

This tour is a day long trip with the Karajia Funeral Tombs. However, to give justice to each I made two separate blog posts.

Enjoy!

The main entrance. The part of the cave where natural light can enter was used as a tomb by ancient Chachapoyas. Now, shamans come and leave gifts of cocoa leaves, candy and palo santo as a means to thank and honor the ancestors.

See the carving there??

The cove that I dreamt of. Looking down it appeared to be another tunnel system. After this point, headlamps and flash lights are needed. You can't see otherwise.

See the cocoa leaf to the left?

The cave was very muddy with intricate underwater streams and pools.

Look at all the orbs in this picture. The deeper we entered the more orbs appeared.

The light returns to the cave... the exit is ahead.
