A couple of year ago we went north of the border and spent a week exploring Glasgow and Mallaig. The West Highland railway line between Glasgow and Mallaig is one of the best railway trips according to Lonely Planet. But it also very long journey taking you through some of the best country around.
Loch Lomond was amazing with the autumn sunlight shining. This image was taken from a moving train.
Mallaig is an interesting town to walk around with some nice places to eat. But probably the best part is a walk around the town to look out onto Skye
It look great in Autumn with a little bit on sunlight but you can imagine it being rather rough in the winter
As you see the cloud drop you can imagine the arrival of Charles Edward Stuart
Skye seem so close as you look out over the bay
